Slightly above average Rom Com (if you don’t like Jason Segel, don’t bother)

The Five Year Engagement Movie Poster

    Just another rom com

Before you even start reading this review, you need to answer a question for me…do you like Jason Segel? It may seem like a silly question seeing as the main star in the Five Year Engagement is How I Met Your Mother’s Marshall, but it actually isn’t.

The main reason being that I’m asking this question is because this movie is pretty much a typical slightly above average rom-com in many regards-so if you don’t like him there is a pretty significant chance you will find this film slightly annoying and well below average.

If you do however, somewhat enjoy his work and are interested in seeing this film then take a look at my review of The Five Year Engagement.

    Moderately average, sorta tastes Mexican…sorta

    El Maco Burger

    McDonalds answer to a taco

Another day, another limited time only burger that McDonald’s have tried to bring back from the dead. However unlike Lazarus, this burger isn’t the good news story that I was hoping for.

The El Maco, touted as McDonald’s very own Mexican burger with lettuce, tomato, cheese, two beef patties and…here’s where it gets Mexican, sour cream and spicy taco sauce is decidedly average.

Despite all the advertising on television marketing this burger as some kind of party or fiesta because I’m eating this burger, I feel slightly underwhelmed.

    Marvel's next X-Men Series?

Hype can be a frustrating thing. Before you venture off and fork out your hard earned for a ticket at the cinema you already have developed a preconceived idea of how the movie will be. If you were a slight laggard to see this film, the hype would’ve been a resounding “ZOMGZZGZ it’s the best thing ever, it’s like incredible and mind blowing and the Hulk he’s like awesome and ZOMGZGZGZ *passes out*“. I saw the film TWO DAYS after it had been released and like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, my mind was ‘pre blown’. Did the film live up to the all the hype generated by the media and general public?

Take a look at my take on Marvel Comic’s The Avengers…

    The Cab Poster

    No Attack Attack

Walking into the Annandale Hotel, I automatically felt like this venue seemed a bit small or a bit small of a stage in comparison with what the Cab are used to.  The other thing I noticed was…the lack of people. I mean there were tumbleweeds attached to tumbleweeds it was that bad.

Earlier in the day Attack! Attack! pulled out due to illness of a band member which caused a discount in ticket price (large reason for going) and also was one of the main reasons there was a lack of people. The atmosphere was pretty poor at the ‘Anno and felt like a true pub gig with a reasonably popular international artist (sans amount of people expected). The other part about the crowd that was unexpected was that not only was there not many people, the crowd was about 95% young females…leading me to realize that The Cab’s target market is not me but girls, lots of them.

What a waste of time and money

Hungry Jack's BBQ Onion Country Burger

    Smaller than this picture...probably

So Hungry Jack’s wanna try something different. They wanna try and lure you in to try their new burger because it’s organic beef and the burger is country style with barbecued onions. You think yeah, the country is alright, I’m sure the flavours will taste better and taste all home made and organic? Yeah I’m sure that the beef will taste a lot less processed and be a higher quality of meat than all of their other burgers…you would be wrong and you will have wasted something like $5.95 in doing so.

Well I’m here to tell you why this burger is a glorified cheeseburger and you should save your money and buy something better.

    Storm? Is that you?

When I first saw the trailer for Chronicle, I was immediately hooked (watch the trailer below) and the more trailers I saw? The more excited I was about seeing the film – so full marks on making me want to spend too much money on seeing a film 20th Century Fox!

Chronicle follows a story about three teenage boys who find a cave/cavern with some alien type ‘thing’ that shoots them with some kind of ray which in turn gives them all super powers. Yeah yeah yeah I know you are thinking ‘not another super hero movie’ or ‘I’d rather see Gerard Butler as a bounty hunter chasing after Jennifer Aniston’ but hear me out on this one-this film is similar to your X-Men’s and your Spiderman’s etc because of the super hero/super power aspect…but that’s it, that’s where the similarities end.

    Tower Heist Movie Poster

    Surprisingly Good!

When you turn up to the cinema and you have no idea what movie you want to see, it’s often a recipe for disaster. You end up seeing a movie for the sake of it and not because you really really want to see it. This happened with Tower Heist. I had all sorts of doubts as to whether or not this would be a good movie. Thoughts of Ben Stiller’s and Eddie Murphy’s latest movies ( Little Fockers & Meet Dave) and the basic premise of idiots trying to steal something in a tower left me little to no confidence that this film would be enjoyable. I am happy to report that I was well and truly proved wrong.

    Chicken McScorcher

    Lamest chicken burger ever

I’m not going to lie to you, I’m a real sucker for new products and limited time only products. From Blue Pepsi to Muncho muncheros, I always seem to get caught in the marketers web of advertising and get reeled in to try whatever new product that has just hit the market. Sometimes I enjoy the new product to the extent where it becomes my preference i.e (Australian) Cherry Coke over any other soft drink in the universe. However, in some cases a new product hits the market, I get suckered in to try said product and it ends up being such a waste of time and money that I feel compelled to tell everyone not to buy this new product-as I said, I’m very passionate about new products (espescially food).

Now in walking into McDonalds, I originally wasn’t going to get the Chicken Scorcher Burger, but me loving trying new products, I just couldn’t resist.

    Smash and Grab

The question is, why fluff around and pad an album out? Why not be direct, to the point and make it more killer less filler? I feel that this is what the Unearth metalcore juggernaut has achieved with this album.

Most people tend to forget or not even know that Unearth are one of the fathers of the Metalcore movement/genre. The reason I’m mentioning this is because it’s a reminder that these guys have been doing this for a lot longer than most.  Other copycats aren’t as tight as Unearth are on this album and here’s why…

  • Green Lantern Review

In Contention for Worst Film of 2011

    3 Shakes out of 10

    Green Lantern Poster

    Worst Movie of 2011?

This movie had so much potential. Now I’m not talking a tiny smidge of potential I’m talking about the fact that The Green Lantern could’ve been one of the best superhero movies to ever grace the screens. But it wasn’t. Not even close. In fact, I want my money back.

The reason that The Green Lantern has so much potential is the vast back catalogue of fantastic comics, cartoons and animated films. There are so many imaginative storylines that other films could dream of drawing from, this film had them and then some-but didn’t use them well at all. Put together some questionable casting, almost cringe worthy acting, some poor screenplay writing, poor pacing, a lack of direction from the director, a lack of understanding of what the Green Lantern is all about and you probably have one of the most disappointing films I have ever seen.

I am not going to lie, Green Lantern probably is one of the hardest backstories to give in one sitting-simply because there is so much information to divulge (and alot of it takes time to tell without seeming as though it has been rushed). So the question begs to be asked as to why this silly film decided they would spend the majority of it farting around on Earth and not in Oa (home of the Green Lantern Core who are guardians of peace in the universe) or in another ‘sector’.
